Privacy Policy

1. Information you give us

• Account details: your email address, username, display name and password. Passwords are stored as secure hashes, never as plain text.
• Profile details: avatar, banner, bio, profile layout, colors and any gaming profile links you add.
• Your activity: library entries, statuses, playtime, ratings, reviews, lists, comments, likes, friends and reports.
• Submissions: games, edits, images and series links you send for review.
• Contact messages: anything you send through the contact page, with your name, email address and IP address so we can reply and prevent spam.

2. Information from connected services

• Steam: if you link Steam, we store your Steam ID and read your owned games, playtime and last played dates. This only works while your Steam game details are public.
• Discord: if you sign in with or link Discord, we store your Discord ID, name and avatar. If you are in the Playdex Discord server, the bot reads your online status and the game you are playing so it can track playtime and show it on your profile.
• You can unlink these services at any time from your connection settings.

3. Information collected automatically

• Sessions: when you log in we store a session with your IP address, browser and device details so you can see and sign out of your devices.
• Analytics: we use a self-hosted copy of Umami to count visits and see which pages are used. Umami does not use tracking cookies. We also use its session recorder, which records how pages are used, such as clicks and scrolling, to help us find bugs and improve the design.
• Logs: our servers keep short-lived technical logs, such as errors and admin actions, to keep the site working and safe.

4. Cookies and local storage

• We use a session cookie to keep you logged in, and short-lived cookies during Discord sign in.
• Your browser stores a few preferences locally, such as list view choices and whether you dismissed the install banner.
• We do not use advertising cookies.

5. How we use your information

• To run your account and show your library, profile, lists and activity.
• To send emails you need, such as sign in codes, verification and password resets, and the summaries or alerts you choose to receive.
• To send push notifications if you turn them on.
• To moderate content and keep the community safe.
• To fix bugs, prevent abuse and improve Playdex.

6. Who can see your information

Your profile, library, activity, friends list, playtime and Discord status are shown to others based on your privacy settings. You can also hide individual games from your profile. Lists follow the visibility you choose for each list. Moderators can see reported content and account details when needed to handle reports.

7. Services we rely on

We share information with these services only as needed for them to do their job:

• Our database and file storage providers, which hold your account data and uploaded images.
• Our email provider, to deliver emails to you.
• Your browser push service, if you turn on push notifications.
• IGDB, which we ask for game details. We do not send your personal information to IGDB.
• Steam and Discord, when you choose to link them.
• Google Fonts, which serves the fonts the site uses and can see your IP address when your browser loads them.

8. How long we keep information

• We keep your account information until you delete your account.
• Sessions expire automatically, and you can sign out of them at any time.
• Notifications are removed after 90 days.
• When you delete your account, we delete your profile, library, reviews, lists you own and other personal data. Some records, such as moderation logs, may be kept for a limited time to protect the site.

9. Your choices

• Change who can see your profile, activity, playtime, friends and Discord status in your privacy settings.
• Edit or delete your content at any time.
• Download a copy of your data from your account settings.
• Turn email and push notifications on or off in your settings.
• Delete your account from your account settings.

10. Children

Playdex is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, please contact us and we will remove it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Playdex changes. When we make important changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and may let you know on the site.
